This option can be used to allocate a pool of piecework earnings among all of the employees and pay them on an hourly basis based on the total piecework earnings in the pool.
Piecework pool totals are entered using the Harvest Totals option on the Labor Contractor menu. Hours worked are entered on the Daily Payroll Entry window. This report combines information from both windows to determine the total piecework earnings, total hours worked, and what hourly rate should be paid to employees.
On the Daily Payroll Entry window, right-click and select Report > Calculate Hourly Rate.
Starting Date/Ending Date
Enter the date range to print the report for.
Grower #
Select a grower account to calculate the rates for.
Crew #/Crew ID
Select a crew number or ID to calculate the rates for.
Guaranteed Rate
Enter the minimum guaranteed rate that the employees will be paid. If the hourly pool rate is less than this guaranteed rate, employees will be paid the guaranteed rate.
Base Rate
Enter a base rate to add the pool earnings to. If you enter a base rate, it will override the straight hourly rate calculation. Using a base rate is more like a production bonus type of system, where employee will receive a base hourly rate plus a bonus based on production, however the bonus is simply included in the hourly rate instead of being itemized with a separate production bonus line.
Update Pay Rates
Check this box to update the rates on the entries in the Daily Payroll file. If you uncheck this box, you can run the report and see what the calculated rates will be without changing the entries in the Daily Payroll file.
Examples
The following two examples are based on the following production totals entered on the Harvest Totals window:
In the first example, run for crew #3, the piecework pool earnings are added to the base hourly rate of 12.00/hour:
The report combines the totals for both lines to get the total piecework pool earnings, and divides this by the total number of hours entered for the employees that worked on 9/10 under crew #3, for grower #19, Crop ID WIN7A and Job ID BPTF:
The total piecework pool is 318.70. Dividing this by the total hours works results in a rate of 1.10 (rounded to the nearest cent) which is then added to the base rate of 12.00/hour to get a rate of 13.10/hour.
For the second example, a guaranteed minimum wage is used:
On the first day, the total pool is greater than the $14.00/hour guaranteed pay rate, so employees are paid at the higher rate. On the second day, the pool total is not high enough to cover the guaranteed rate ($6972/579 = $12.04/hour), so employees are paid the guaranteed rate of $14.00/hour:
